The Hathern Wild Flower Book
Written in the late 1980's but not published until 2015, this little book stands as a valuable historical record of many of the wild flowers growing 30 or so years ago in and around the north Leicestershire village of Hathern, and their sites. Written by an enthusiast rather than an expert, the book was conceived to convey the sheer pleasure to be gained from an interest in Britain's wild flowers. So much has changed in Hathern in three decades, and many sites now lie beneath bricks and mortar. There may be few exotic species, but with an enviable range of habitats, including a botanically-rich stretch of the River Soar, there was much of interest when this survey was undertaken between 1986 and 1990. Most species of Hathern's wild flowers are illustrated by the author's fine photographs.
